ABOUT

Philippe Gerber is a French-American film and documentary composer based in Philadelphia, creating original scores that bring a distinctive sonic identity to the screen. Working across horror, science fiction, and documentary, he combines a strong sense of narrative with an experimental approach to sound, crafting music that deepens emotional impact, builds tension, and enhances the cinematic experience.

His compositions draw on acoustic and analog instruments, electric guitar, electronic textures, drones, and unconventional recording techniques. Moving between atmospheric minimalism, unsettling sonic landscapes, and powerful cinematic themes, Gerber develops a unique musical language for each project, shaped by its characters, visual world, and narrative demands.

With a background in experimental music and a longstanding interest in the darker side of cinema, Gerber approaches film scoring as an integral part of the storytelling process. His work seeks to establish more than a mood: it creates a sonic environment that gives each film its own identity.

His selected film credits include By George – It All Comes Down, directed by H. Paul Moon, which won best Historical documentary at the Syracuse International Film Festival; Flicker, directed by Charlie Perez, which won Best Sci-Fi Feature at the Medusa Film Festival and received six awards at the Morgana International Film Festival, including Best Score;  and El Laboratorio, a horror film directed by Xavier Markus.

Gerber is also the founder of They Came From Hell, a creative platform dedicated to original music for film, trailers, and cinematic projects.

Whether working with tension, atmosphere, or emotional restraint, Philippe Gerber creates scores that serve the story while pushing beyond conventional musical boundaries.
